What are you raising the money for?

Boo at the Zoo is aiming to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis ACT and the National Zoo and Aquarium Conservation Trust.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common recessive genetic disorder in Australia today. It affects around 1 in 2500 births and around 1 in 20 Australians carry one of the genes that can cause Cystic Fibrosis (there are almost 1000 variations of the gene).

CF affects many parts of the body, especially the lungs and liver. At present there is no cure for CF, only treatments, however for each year that research has been done on CF a further year has been added to the life expectancy of children born. Currently the life expectancy of a child born today with CF is around mid 30’s. For more information on Cystic Fibrosis please visit http://www.cysticfibrosis.org.au/.
